Awkward and Awesome + Happy Birthday

I don't do these posts very often because usually I forget all my awkward moments of the day. There are lots of them... but I forget them when I stare at a blank computer screen, wondering what to post. So here are some that have been saved for a while, coupled with some recent ones.

Awkward:

Serving a customer at Subway while trying in vain to stifle an awful attack of the hiccups. The poor customer was trying in vain not to laugh, while I was also trying in vain not to turn beet red. Not a good situation. Probably my most embarrassing moment ever.

Watching Mum give Jacob a piece of kumera. "It's a bit hot, so be careful." Mum proceeds to drop the kumera accidentally in his cup of water, producing giggles from all the watching siblings and a smile on Jacob's face. Hearing his little voice saying, "It's not hot now, Mummy!"

Waving at someone you think you know... and then they give you that awkward stare and the "Who are you?" look. I don't know them, after all.

"How are you?" "Doing well thanks, how are you?" "Good thanks, and you?"

We were at the Warehouse and I couldn't find something I was looking for. I saw a lady nearby who was wearing a red shirt and naively assumed she worked there. "Excuse me, do you know where the .... is kept?" Blank look... "No sorry, I don't. Maybe you could ask a staff member?" (Oops.)

Telling someone an awesome joke... then they kind of look at you funny and you realise in shock/horror/dismay that they were the one who originally told it to you.

Spilling an entire rack of stacked dishes onto the floor. Spending twenty minutes picking them all back up again... only to knock them all onto the floor a second time when you are carefully placing the last one.

Folding up the washing and having trouble figuring out the difference between Caleb and Jacob's pyjamas. Then picking up Jana's tiny wee clothes and thinking, "Well, I'm not getting these muddled up!" Duh. They are pink. Boy's clothes are not generally pink.

Awesome:

When a customer tells you that you are doing a good job at what you do. Seriously... no one ever says that! Thank you, random stranger!

Vegetarian spaghetti bolognaise. It sounds gross, but it's really yum.

Putting chocolate into your nut mix (scroggin) for a bike trip. And totally wanting to eat it then and there.

Devouring books.

When the washing is completely finished and there is no mountain on the couch any more.

Playing tickling games with Jacob while trying to get him to wash his hands before tea. So much fun.

Music. Soothing and stirring and satisfying.

And last... best of all. Birthdays.

Happy birthday to my wonderful Daddy!!
May you have a wonderful year. You are totally awesome. I love you so much. Happy Birthday!

  1. Do you mind if I am completely unsympathetic to your various plights?

  2. "How are you?" "Doing well thanks, how are you?" "Good thanks, and you?" I've done this before...so embarrassing. At least it was on the phone, and not in person.... :)

    1. Er, well, I didn't think it was pretty funny when it was happening. But I'm glad you enjoyed them.
