Bonnie's Opinion // I am PRO CHOICE???!!!!

I am pro choice when it comes to abortion.

Did that statement surprise you? Yet it is absolutely and completely true. I am utterly pro choice.

I believe God should choose.

So many things have to happen for a baby to be conceived. And then for it to develop fingers and toes and eyes and a heart and everything... wow, a baby in the womb really is the greatest, most incredible miracle ever!
The Bible talks about God making us in the womb and knitting us together there. Isn't that cool! I love that imagery. God is the one who brings about this incredible miracle and knits the baby together.

Since he has his hand on the process, and since he is the sovereign Almighty God we reverence and shouldn't mess with, why oh why do we try to play God and take the baby's life into our own hands?

Society says things like "it's just a lump of tissue" and "my body my choice". Yet when you think about it, as soon as God conceives and begins knitting a new life inside you, it is not your body anymore. It is another body that you have no right to lay any hands on! That child, if left in the womb for nine months, will fully develop. God has chosen to create that child. It is His decision. Sometimes that pregnancy will terminate in a miscarriage (which is incredibly sad) but generally, God will choose to allow the pregnancy to continue. Which is good and right because of course He knows best.

People say things like, "well what about if it is a child conceived out of rape? Should a 13 year old girl be forced to continue the pregnancy?"
Of course she should. Whether or not she keeps the baby or adopts it out is her choice but the child she is carrying is another human. Another life. She has the responsibility, given to her by God himself, to carry the child in her womb to full term. Choose life, no matter the consequences.

"I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live..." (Deuteronomy 30:19).
I'm pro choice.
God's choice.
It has never been our choice.
It never will be.

How could we be so proud and arrogant as to assume ourselves the position of our great God, the Master of the Universe, King of Kings and Creator (or Knitter) of life?

  1. This is so true! I agree! I'd never thought about it from this point of view before: "Yet when you think about it, as soon as God conceives and begins knitting a new life inside you, it is not your body anymore." That is such an interesting point: yes, while "my body, my choice," it's no longer "my body"! Thanks for writing this, Bonnie!

    1. I'm so glad this was a new perspective and blessed you in some small way! :) The abortion issue is massive right now and I'm firmly of the opinion that those of us who follow Jesus need to stand on the Truth and actively defend it.

  2. Yep, with you all the way!
+ I really wanna see pics of your brother! <3

  3. Totally agree! Love the new way to think about it. :)
    Glad to have you back!

  4. Well said, Bonnie... Thank you for taking a stand and writing about such a delicate subject as abortion. It pains me to think of the millions of babies across the world being aborted everyday...each life is precious and a gift from God! This is something that has been on my mind lately and thinking about how many people are pro-choice honestly makes me want to cry... I saw October Baby for the first time a few months ago and oh my...that film brought the tears on! I would recommend it to everyone...totally worth the watch as it just makes it all seem so much more real. I love Francine River's Atonement Child. That book first got me thinking more deeply about abortion and also the issues surrounding it... I don't know if you've read it, but it is about a young lady who conceives a child in rape and her journey as she battles through what to do and eventually chooses life. So sobering... I think after my mom miscarried (three times just before Caleb), it really hit me that life is in the Lord's hands and, as you say, how could we be so arrogant and proud to assume the role of God? Thank you, Bonnie... Blessings to you and your dear family, friend!

    1. Thank you so much for your lovely comment, Kelly-Anne. I am, too, pained when I think of all the babies that are aborted. Lie is such a gift.
How can we throw it back in God's face and reject something from Him himself just because it's not convenient?
I haven't seen October Baby but I've heard it is great. I haven't read Francine River's book either but it sounds fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing.
Blessings to you and your family! Stay amazing.

  5. Interesting perspective Bonnie. I am entirely pro life btw. Adoption is a beautiful thing for just about everyone who goes into it with the right attitude. As an adoptive parent tho, I think the important thing is that it takes away from ivf and the playing of god humans do in other ways.

    1. Hehee, I saw that an 'anonymous' had commented and my first reaction was 'Oh no, someone is going to want to debate it!' :D
I'm fully behind adoption and I think it's a beautiful although as you said needs to be done from the right place! Interesting to hear your perspective as an adoptive parent. IVF and things like that are an interesting discussion too.

  6. This is one of the best posts I've read on this topic, Bonnie! xx

  7. The title of this post was getting me scared. :P. But nah, great post and entirely agree with you.
I was actually discussing this issue a week or so ago with some women who happened to work on the same assembly line as I was working on. I find that whenever your discussing this with a pro choice advocate, you can just find so many inconsistencies and holes in their position, since many of them haven't thought it properly through, and by pointing out these flaws and really trying to get them to attempt to explain them, you can come to show them this as well.

    1. Hehee, the title of this post was meant to be an attention grabber. Sorry if it got you scared! :P
Interesting points. I agree that a lot of people haven't really thought it through. I've come across (and had discussions with) a lot of pro choice-ers who have thought it through though.

    2. I meant thought it through right down to it's fundamental logical basis. But yes, definitely there are people who have. What would you say is the strongest pro choice argument you've heard?

    3. The strongest pro choice argument I've heard... I don't know, to be honest. They often use the argument of "if it's not legal you get a lot of back street abortions which are crazy dangerous and the mothers end up dying". Also when they come up with "what about a 13 year old girl who was raped by her father and is now carrying his child - would you let her abort this child who was conceived out of incest?". Of course there are pro life responses to both of those.... but it's tricky to know the best way to respond.
