2017 Word of the Year - Firgun

This year 2017 has really crept up on me. I can't believe it's come so fast. Seriously it's ridiculous!

So the past two years I've had 'words' for the year. Here's my word for 2015 and here's my word for 2016.

Anyway both those years I thought long and hard about which word to pick. This time I haven't thought about it at all. I completely forgot to be perfectly honest.

Until I came across a list of Hebrew words that don't directly translate into English words and was just reading it out of interest......and this word was one of them. It just jumped out at me! I thought, wow, this is my word for the next year!

So, allow me to present to you my word for 2017: 'Firgun'. It's written in Hebrew like this: פירגון

Firgun is defined by Wikipedia as "a generosity of spirit, an unselfish, empathetic joy that something good has happened, or might happen, to another person. The infinitive form of the word, "Lefargen", means to make someone feel good without any ulterior motives. This absence of negativity is an integral part of the concept of firgun."

Now it might seem a bit of a random word to pick. But I love random. :P And it speaks to me. I love positivity and the absence of negativity. How cool would it be to focus for a whole year on generosity of spirit and unselfish and empathetic joy?!

Real cool, guys. Real cool.

So get your seatbelts on. That's where I'm headed!!

May 2017 be an absolutely incredible year for all you guys. God bless you. Sending hugs and prayers from over here in the US to you wherever in the world you are.

Do you have one word for the year? What about resolutions? What are your goals, dreams and desires for 2017? Do share!

  6. Haven't picked a word as such, but I'm hoping to be more consistent and intentional in my quiet times, and spend less time on Facebook...and I'm aiming to read at least three novels this summer, as well as at least four "Christian living" books (this is a very broad category...so pretty much anything from a book on evangelism to Timothy Keller's "the Reason for God"
