(I wasn't sure if I had read it before or not, but after reading it I remember reading it a first time.)<br /><br />Our copy is quite old. Printed in 1955. Yes......Oh, cool! :) Mountains of Spices is great. <br />Yes.... I've always loved the Hobbit though, so go figure!! I guess the Hobbit is more of an easy read. I've always found LOTR kind of hard to swallow (too long, I guess) but that's probably saying more about me than about Tolkien! I am currently reading Surprised by Joy by CS Lewis and it is really good. I am kinda sad to find you don't like LOTR but of course it is not a book for everyone, I think it is the best human written masterpiece out there, but each to her own right.
