The Procrastinator's Daybook

Date... April 30, 2013
Starting time... 4:53 pm
Mood... happy
Outside my window... cloudy.
I'm thinking... The Procrastinator's Daybook is such a great idea!
I'm currently reading... The Bible... I've got nothing else majorly 'on the go' at the moment.
I'm listening to... the computer's gentle hum. For once in a way, it's pretty much quiet round here.Just so you know, it's not normally quiet...
I'm wearing... fleecy pants and a purple fleecy sweatshirt. It's quite cold.
I'm looking forward to... The Ballet show on the weekend! And a Christian camp at the end of this month. And my birthday also at the end of this month.
I'm hoping... the aforementioned things will go well!
Yesterday, I... went to the ballet photo shoot. Lots of standing around wearing costumes and makeup feeling cold.
I'm hungry for... fejoas. Don't ask me why.
The song stuck in my head is... She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain (yes, that's completely random but that's the truth sorry!)
I love... chocolate!!!
I loathe... asparagus
Picture of the week...
This is Ben a very long time ago. He was roughly three (I think). Isn't he cute?
And on that note, I think it's time to go. Isn't the Procrastinator's Daybook a good idea? I'm going to do it more often!

Funnies- STOLEN!

These awesome funnies were (sadly) stolen from Jaime's blog... http://diligentlywaiting.blogspot.co.nz/

Here you go. :-)

I've been tagged... AGAIN

Oh dear! These tags are getting kind of annoying. Okay, I'll do just this one more and then whoever tags me after that is out of luck sorry. I've lost track of the number of times I've been tagged now, like... six or something?

Anyway. Ten random facts about myself.

1.) My eyes have no definite colour. They are kind of blue-ey/green-ey/hazel-ey. No one knows!
2.) I like to think I am good at drawing..... Humble, aren't I.
3.) I have never ever seen any Shrek movies, Madagascar or Monsters Inc or any movies like that, although I have seen Ice Age 1. That's it! (Oh, and part of Over the Hedge.)
4.) Peanut butter chocolate is kind of interesting.]
5.) Did you know that the best kind of sandwich is a thick layer of avocado with some kind of jam on top? It's a bit like the American's Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches, although IMO it is WAYYY nicer!
6.) I love avocado. Did I mention I love avocado?
7.) The netball positions I play are GD and GK. I used to play Goal Shoot and Goal Attack but not anymore. I got  switched. The one position I hate is Center.
8.) I can touch-type. Not very fast, but fast enough for my brain to get confused and I make mistakes!
9.) Although I like wearing skirts, I often just wear a comfortable pair of jeans or fleecy pants. Skirts make me feel dressed up. Danella, Sophie and I ALWAYS without fail wear skirts to Church.
10.) Our ballet show is like... THIS WEEKEND! We have rehearsals all this week. If it wasn't this week, we would have been able to go be leaders at a kid's camp. Although I like both of them a lot, we are probably pulling out of ballet after this show. So we felt it was important to do it.
Our ballet tutus for the show are mauve and lime green... they are simply gorgeous! I love wearing tutus.

So that's ten random facts! I'm not going to tag anyone this time because otherwise we'll be thinking up facts until the end of the millenium [only slight exaggeration]!

Photo, diggers and pumpkin soup

Okay, so here we go. I'll try and explain each picture to you as we go along. This first one is a family picture taken near Eyerton (not sure if I spelt that right, but it's kind of North Canterbury) where we went to visit some friends on Saturday afternoon. Some photos are taken by Abbie, some by me and the first two by our cousin's grandad.
Yeah, so here's us. Left to right: Ben, Johnny, Caleb, Dad, Mum holding Jacob, Abbie, Lydia, Sophie, me and Danella. Notice how I am like, one of the shortest of us 4 older girls?

This is the entire group. You can see some Smithies scattered around! There are two other families, our cousins and THEIR cousins, who own the ten acres we went to see. We are all great friends.

Our cousin's cousins are building their house at the moment. The digger arrived to dig the foundations when we were there! Here are some photos (in the wrong order sorry!) of the digger's ingenious way of getting off the truck.

People watching

He first tips up the truck
And turns it around (notice the photographer being photographed?)

This is a completely random photo. It is of this awesome laneway of trees right down the length of their property!

Here's the digger getting off the truck

Almost done.... notice how the front part of his caterpillar treads are still off the ground. This affords a clue as to how he did it. It was quite spectacular to watch.

So there we go. We had lots of fun in Eyreton (still not spelt right) and catching up with the relatives. Our cousins (not the ones who own this property) are going back overseas to the mission field at the end of May so we are not going to have them with us much longer.

On an extremely random note, we had pumpkin soup for lunch that day. I do love pumpkin soup.

Bonnie (are you tired of me and my soup yet?)

Computer-free days and weeks

Yay!!! With the previous post and Esther Rose becoming a follower, we hit 70 posts and a corresponding 7 followers!!!

Question: What have we been doing recently? Short Answer: A lot. Long answer: Do you want some examples??? Okay here we go.

This week we have absolutely LOTS of ballet rehearsals. Today was the official photo shoot for the show (it's on the 3rd and 4th of May; Friday and Saturday) and have rehearsals all the rest of the week. Thursday is the full dress rehearsal.

What??? you say. Ballet ALL this week? Yes, my friend. That is the truth. (Okay, I'm being a bit silly at the moment. I'm in a wacky frame of mind...)

But last week we've been doing some minor schoolwork (mostly catching up) and doing 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles (one 1000 piece and one 500 piece this week), and of course, practicing our ballet. So we don't forget what we have to do for the show! I know that doesn't sound very busy, considering I could have blogged, but I've had an almost completely computer-free week. It was quite enlightening to see just how much I really rely on using the computer all the time!

I recommend everyone has computer-free days or weeks. Try it and see just how much technology is a part of your daily life. It's quite shocking really.

I do apologise for such a random post, however as I said before, I am in a random mood. We had tomato soup for lunch. :-)

Please Do The Poll

Hmmm, I'm wondering what you want to see more of on this blog. I've decided to do a poll specifically for finding out what kind of posts you like! Please do it, for it is by you taking part that I will know what to post.

Thank you very much. It is much appreciated.

Awkward and Awesome

Okey dokey, I'm going to have a crack at one of my very first awkward and awesome posts!!!

(bows and waits for applause to stop)

AWKWARD:

-Going into a room with a specific purpose, only to find that you had forgotten what that purpose was!
-Biting your tongue accidentally while eating- OUCH
-When you start reciting Bible verses loftily to younger siblings when they are squabbling, only to find that you are saying them wrong and they start telling you the correct ones...
-Thinking that the words LOL stood for Lots of Love when they stand for Laugh out Loud..... enough said! (don't worry, this was, like, a year ago)
-Forgetting to attach attachments to emails.
-Trying to think of things to write for Awkward. I've run out already...

AWESOME:

-Watermelon chewing gum. That is, like, the most awesome thing ever.
-Cute little brothers and sisters....
-Jeremiah 29:11. I think that has to be one of my favourite verses in the entire Bible! (I have thousands of top favourites, by the way.)
-Chestnuts. I love eating them! The domain at the end of our street has dozens of chestnuts trees. We go down there and get bags and bags full then come home, cook 'em up and eat just about all of them.
-Watching videos of Laurel and Hardy on YouTube.
-SCHOOL HOLIDAYS!!!!

And on that note, I shall henceforth depart. Fare thee well, for I shall not return until after dawn has broken.
Bonnie

I'm IT in a game of tag...

Cool! Aarathyn Arvell of Inconceivable! tagged me! So I have to write ten random facts about myself and then tag ten other people.

Okay... first things first, I guess...

Random fact number one: I own a grand total of one pair of high heels.
Random fact number two: The time is now exactly... 1:44 pm.
Random fact number three: I love the song See What A Morning (Resurrection Hymn) by Stuart Townend. I could listen to it over and over!
Random fact number four: I hate it when I get introduced to introverted people at events and then are expected to make conversation with them... which I find very awkward when they are an introvert and you end up making ALL the conversation and rack your brains fruitlessly trying to think of things to say and appropriate questions to ask!
Random fact number five: I absolutely love grapes and watermelon. Fruit is the best. :-)
Random fact number six: Stripy scivvies are awesome!
Random fact number seven: I collect business cards. I have over 300 random business cards, some are of individuals, some are of businesses, but the vast majority I collected because I love colourful ones.
Random fact number eight: I'm running out of things to say...
Random fact number nine: I think Blogspot is better than Wordpress.
Random fact number ten: I'm glad Aarathyn tagged me because I didn't have any ideas for a blog post today so this was an excellent excuse. Thank you, Aarathyn!

So.... second things second. The thing everyone wants to know.... Who I Am Going To Tag Next....

1.) Sayna (sorry Sayna, you always end up getting tagged!) of http://shiningarrows.nzbee.com/
2.) Matthew of http://matthewsampson.wordpress.com/
3.) Jag Swiftstorm of jagswiftstorm.blogspot.co.nz
4.) David of davidsampson1.wordpress.com
5.) Esther of http://joyful-maiden.blogspot.co.nz/
6.) Rachel, Esther and Tiffany of http://jewelsofjesus.blogspot.co.nz/ (I have no idea if these three will do it as their blog is not exactly for this sort of thing!)
7.) Ireland from http://keepingpurebeforehim.blogspot.co.nz/
8.) Daniel from http://danielsampson1122.wordpress.com/
9.) Layla and Josiah from http://aaaaaahhhhs.blogspot.co.nz/
10.) Philip from philipsampson.wordpress.com

Photos of Adrenaline Forest

Hey again, everyone. Well, I said I'd post photos of Adrenaline Forest... so here they are. Once again I'll try to caption them with the names of the people in the photos. I am sorry about the lighting in the photos, you don't get adequate lighting in a forest!
Photo credit goes to Dad and Abbie, who were watching us.

All of us Adrenaline Forest-ers: From left. Johnny, Josiah, Ben, me, Danella, Sophie, Isaac and Joel. Josiah, Joel and Isaac are our cousins.

Isaac on a platform about to do a challenge

Sophie flying through the air on one of the awesome flying foxes

Sophie again doing another challenge

Danella (foreground) about to launch herself  off, with Sophie in the background just coming in to the platform

The infamous barrels. This is a challenge where you have to kind of wriggle through these barrels on your back, all the time suspended at a height off trees!

Guest post- Nine Ways to Compose a Photograph

9 Ways to Compose a Photograph

“A big thank you to Bonnie, for giving me the opportunity to guest post at this wonderful Blog!”

There are so many different techniques, rules and ways to take a good photo. So many that sometimes we get overwhelmed. Today, I have broken it into Nine simple steps.

1.       Perhaps the most well know principle of photographic composition is the ‘Rule of Thirds‘.
The basic principle behind the rule of thirds is to imagine breaking an image down into thirds (both horizontally and vertically) so that you have 9 parts.

The theory is that if you place points of interest in the intersections or along the lines that your photo becomes more balanced and will enable a viewer of the image to interact with it more naturally. Studies have shown that when viewing images that people’s eyes usually go to one of the intersection points most naturally rather than the center of the shot – using the rule of thirds works with this natural way of viewing an image rather than working against it.

I’ll leave you to imagine the lines. But, notice that the tree is not in the centre of this photo.

2. Try focusing on one aspect of your subject. Using the Macro setting, which is on most cameras.

3. Try taking photos from different angles. Nobody said you had to stand in front of your subject and simply click the button. Try taking photos from above and below eye or head level.

4. Take photos of Silhouettes. Sunrise and sunsets are your best friends.

5. Take photos that invites the viewer(s) in.  i.e. standing in the middle of the road.

6. Play with your photos using an editing program. I use Picasa and/or PhotoShop.
In the photo below, I increased the shadows, and used “I’m Feeling Lucky” on Picasa.

This photo was lightened. To help the white balance.

7. Practice. Practice! Practice makes perfect, and so does true dedication.

8. Tell your model to jump off something. This is most effective when using a motion or anti-blur setting (on some cameras.)

 8. Take colourful photos. It never hurts to take a few bright photos!

9. And most of all.… Have fun. Photography should not feel like a chore!
